Hello Everyone, This is my website reflecting ton the growth and development I gained from my FIQWS Courses. Here you can find some of my works that I have done in both of my FIQWS courses: FIQWS 10105 and FIQWS 10005.
The Works Included are:
- An Exploratory Essay entitled “The Creation of Sex-role Based Interactions In Older Adaptions of Fairy Tales”
- A Research Critical Analysis Essay (RCA) entitled, “The Case of a Human Doll: Sleeping Beauty, Object of Male Desires”
- An Rhetorical Analysis Essay on David Papineau’s article, “Yes, the Players in the World Cup Do Keep Falling Over for No Reason”
- An Creative Retelling of the fairytale, “The Three Little Pigs”
Learning Outcomes of FIQWS 10105 & 10005
At the end of both FIQWS courses, I was able to master the learning outcomes set for these courses. Three of those learning outcomes are:
- “Developing and engaging in the collaborative and social aspects of writing process”
- ”Locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias”
- “Practice systematic application of citation conventions”
”Locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias”
When I was looking for sources for my Exploratory Essay, I learned how to navigate my school library’s database, where I found articles that were already peer reviewed. Contents that are posted on the school library’s database have to go through a process in which it is deemed worthy enough to be placed on an academia site. When I was researching sources on the web, I had to go through different steps before I could deem the source credible enough. First I had to make sure the site that I got the source from, has a .edu, and .org at the end of their URL; these sites are more trustworthy to give factual information.
“Developing and engaging in the collaborative and social aspects of writing process”
With the process of writing my Research Critical Analysis Essay, in the end, I learned how to develop as a writer through the process of collaboration, in which my classmates and I took part in peer review sessions where we read each other’s essays and gave comments/feedbacks on where we can fix or improve sections of them. It helps to have a completely different set of eyes to analyze your paper, because you might not be able to spot some mistakes you have made.
“Practice systematic application of citation conventions”
After finding all the sources for my Exploratory essay, the next thing that was done was to integrate them into the essay. In doing this, I practice how to systematically apply citations in my work. The exploratory essay was written in the MLA format, and contained in text citations when a source and their information was mentioned/introduced. The essay also had a works cited page that contained all the sources that were used and where to find them. They are listed alphabetically according to their last name.
